Background

An insured policy-holder was referred to Independent Inspections because a candle caught fire so the customer extinguished in the kitchen sink. The wax spilled onto the reclaimed oak floor in the hall and dining room, and ceramic tiles in the kitchen. Independent Inspections was appointed to validate the damage and submit a quote by the customer for replacement of the kitchen and dining room/hall floors. The price quoted for the replacement of kitchen floor, to take the existing kitchen out and refit. and replacement of the dining room/hall oak floor was approximately £19,000.

Work Undertaken

  • Restoration team from Independent Inspections visited the customer to assess the damage and establish the most cost effective option for settling the claim.
  • Following the completion of validation and carrying out controlled product tests on flooring, it was established that successful  restoration  of both oak floor ceramic tiles was possible.
  • This was discussed  and agreed with the customer and the insurer client
  • The restorations technicians completed the works in two visits at the request of the policyholder to minimise the disruption

The Outcome

The restoration was successful and the policyholder was delighted with the result. The total cost of restoration for both kitchen and dining room/hall floors resulted in an a £15k saving to the insurer and a significant amount of disruption to the client.
